Two days after the Papal Conclave started (March 12), the 115 Cardinals have already elected a new Pope that will succeed the now Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI who relived his position last February 28. With the name of Pope Francis which was inspired from the name of St. Francis of Assisi, the name symbolizes poverty, humility, simplicity and rebuilding the Catholic Church which receives so many criticism due to scandals and issues concerning the leaders. Pope Francis or Jorge Bergoglio is an Archbishop from Buenos Aires, Argentina and will be serving as the new leader of the Catholic Church at the age of 76.
Pope Francis is considered as the Pope of many first. He is the first Pope coming from a Latin America, the first ever Jesuit to be elected as Pope and the first to use Francis for his Papal name. He was elected after 5 election the second day of conclave and instead of giving his blessings to the thousands of faithfuls joining the vigil in front of the St. Peter’s Basilica, Pope Francis asked them to pray for him.
With his assuming to the position, Pope Francis will surely face all the challenges that the world are throwing on the Catholic Church including on the sexual scandals and abuses that most of the priest and church leaders were involved. Also with his stand against contraceptives and gay marriage which he has strong opposition and even clashing with the Argentine President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner.
With the new Pope in the position it will bring a new era to the Catholic Church but as of now no one knows what will happen on his reight – the world awaits with the new Pope Francis.
