After the success of Rio in 2011 that features the voices of Anne Hathaway, Jesse Eisenberg, Jemaine Clement, will.i.am, Tracy Morgan, George Lopez, Leslie Mann,Rodrigo Santoro, Brazilian singer Bebel Gilberto, Jake T. Austin, and Jamie Foxx, the 20th Century Fox announces that Rio 2 will be released on April 2014. The rollout of the second installment of Rio will start on March 20, 2014, followed by its domestic release on April 11, 2014 and in the Philippines in April 10, 2014.
Rio 2 is under the production of Blue Skies Studio and directed by Carlos Saldanha, who was inspired to create Rio based upon his experiences growing up in that city with producers John C. Donkin and Bruce Anderson. It follows the journey of Blu and Jewel who are now proud parents of three and now living in the magical city. Jewel decided that their kids need to learn to live like real birds; she insists the family venture into the Amazon. As Blu tries to fit in with his new neighbors, he worries he may lose Jewel and the kids to the call of the wild.
Rio 2 also features the voices of Andy Garcia, Bruno Mars, Kristin Chenoweth, Rita Moreno, Amandla Stenberg, Rachel Crow, Pierce Gagnon, and Natalie Morales. Meanwhile to make it more exciting, the Brazilian music legend and Rio executive music producer, Sergio Mendes returns along with composer John Powell. RIO 2 will feature new Brazilian artists and original music by Janelle Monáe and The Wondaland Arts Society, who also voices a role in the film. Soundtrack will be released on Atlantic Records.
Rio earned global box office tally is $486 million and now available on DVD and Blu-ray disc.
