After the success of the first Philippine Red Cross Million Volunteer Run last December 2011 that gathered more than 350, 000 volunteers, runners and advocates joining the even and creating the sea of people wearing red at the Roxas Boulevard, Buendia in Makati City, and Coastal Road in Pasay, and finished at the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City. Funds raised from the first MVR activity were given to the Red Cross Volunteers 143 chapters in the country.
And now the Philippine Red Cross will be having the 2nd Million Volunteer Run on February 10 at 5AM. The MVR2 will start from the Aliw Theater and Cultural Center of the Philippines in Pasay City and finish line will be in Quirino Grandstand in Luneta, Manila. There will be two categories including 3K and 5K run. Registration fee for the MVR2 includes Php 100 for students, Php 200 for non-students and Php 500 for business executives. With the theme Run to Save Lives, the Million Volunteer Run aims to raise funds for the projects of Philippine Red Cross, encourage volunteers and awareness. PRC targets million of volunteers to join the MVR2 on Feb 10 where they partners with different companies, schools and organizations. The reason they choose the date (Feb 10) is that they want to highlight the concept of 143, for PRC it stands for 1 leader for 43 volunteers in every baranggay to immediate response in disasters a humanitarian relief. With their campaign they wanted to encourage the youth that are tech savvy and very active to be part of the campaign and become volunteers of the 143 campaign of the Philippine Red Cross.
At the Partner’s Day of PRC were they officially launched MVR2 private and public sectors showed their support including Coca-Cola, SMART, Armed Forces of the Philippines, Commission on Higher Education, McDonald’s, Universal Records, Studio 23, DDB Philippines, SM Supermalls, Philippine National Police and others.
