Tagged as one of the trend setters of the Philippine film industry today after the success of No Other Woman, Director Ruel S. Bayani returns to the big screen with his first ever entry to the 2012 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entitled One More Try. Before his venture with this MMFF entry, Bayani was the director of hit teleseryes of ABS-CBN including Mula Sa Puso, Kokey, Iisa Pa Lamang, Tayong Dalawa, Nagsimula Sa Puso, Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin, Budoy and several episodes of Maalaala Mo Kaya. One More Try stars Angel Locsin, Angelica Panganiban, Dingdong Dantes and Zanjoe Marudo and to be shown in all cinemas nationwide beginning December 25.
One More Try was produced and to be distributed by Star Cinema. It follows the struggle of Edward played by Dingdong who was caught in the middle between the woman he loved from the past named Grace (Locsin)who came back with their child who is sick and his wife Jacqueline (Panganiban) who cannot give him a child and at first pushing to do what it right in order to let his child survive. Edward and Grace’s son needs a bone marrow transplant and the only way to get that is by having a siblings coming from his parents but with the existence of Jacqueline and Tristan (Marudo) how it will be possible and moral for the both of them having their own separate relationships.
According to Bayani, the movie will not focus on the child’s sickness instead it will center on the relationship of each characters and how will they react on the current situation. Knowing Direk Ruel with the kind of twist that he showed in No Other Woman along with the transformation of the characters and development of the stories in TV series he directed they should expect the unexpected outcome and the twist and turns of the story along with the characters.
Aside from One More Try, Direk Ruel is now facing another challenge in his career after being appointed as one of the newest Business Unit Heads of ABS-CBN. According to him it was an honor to be considered in the position at the same time it will really challenge his creativity because aside from being the head of the unit that will produce TV shows in the Kapamilya Network he wanted to be part of the creation of the scripts and at the same time be the director of the show. As of now he the MMK Klasiks that is currently airing at the Kapamilya Gold timeslot of ABS-CBN is under the unit of Bayani.
Direk Ruel Bayani was the protégé of the late award winning director and National Artist of the Philippines for Cinema Ishmael Bernal who was behind the successful films including Pagdating Sa Dulo, Nunal Sa Tubig, Manila By Night, Himala and Hinugot Sa Langit. He undergoes training with Bernal at the same time with the late Marilou Diaz-Abaya who was his instructor in Ateneo de Manila University. Marilou’s Marilou Diaz-Abaya Film Institute and Arts Center that was now supervised by her colleagues in Star Cinema where Bayani is part of it.
