Happening on December 1 at the SMART Tower in Makati City, SMART Communications Inc through the SMART DevNet team and Web Geek Philippines will be having the very first Foursquare Hackathon competition in the country. The hackathon this year aims to encourage Filipino application developers to develop the next big social/location/mobile (SoLoMo) app for Foursquare. The Foursquare Hack Day Philippines (#4SQHackPH) will be the very first activity of Foursquare Labs-approved event outside in the United States.
Up to date there are already forty three teams who will be joining the said hackathon event. According to Paul Pajo, SMART Developer Evangelist mentioned that the hackathon will have a theme but it will be announced on the day itself. But he encourages the team to think ideas that they think can be useful for their project along with their applications. Aside from having the chance to meet the Software Engineer of Foursquare which is Sajid Mehmood, there’s a total of Php 60, 000 cash prizes and software subscriptions worth more than $4, 5000 for the team who will create the best SoLoMo app using the foursquare API.
According to Pajo, this will be the best venue for developers to showcase their talents in creating applications that will be very useful for smartphone users. Before the Foursquare Hackathon on Dec 1, SMART DevNet already partnered with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) launched the Project Noah mobile application that is already available for iOs and Android devices. The Project Noah was one of the winning apps in SMART’s HTML5 DevDay Hackathon in Davao.
Up to date according to Mehmood, there’s roughly 25 Million foursquare users in the world. And in the Philippines, SMART was the very first wireless provider who partnered with Foursquare and launched the very first Foursquare badge in the country which is the Live More badge that was unlocked twice at the Lady Gaga concert last May 2012.
