After the successful restoration of the Ishmael Bernal’s Himala which was previewed in 69th Venice Film Festival and featured the Superstar Ms. Nora Aunor, ABS-CBN announces the restoration of another one of the best films ever created in the Philippines entitled Oro Plata Mata (Gold, Silver, Bad Luck). It was directed by Peque Gallaga and featured actors including Cherie Gil, Sandy Andolong, Liza Lorena, Fides Cuyungan-Asencio, Manny Ojeda, Maya Valdez, Lorli Villanueva, Ronnie Lazaro, Joel Torre, Abbo de la Cruz, and Kuh Ledesma. The restored version of Oro Plata Mata will be previewed at the 2012 Cinema One Originals Film Festival on November 28 (Wednesday) at the Robinson’s Galleria Movie World. The festival’s opening event will start at 6:00 p.m.
Oro Plata Mata was written by award-winning director and writer Jose Javier Reyes with cinematography by acclaimed cinematographer Rody Lacap. The restoration was made possible through a partnership between ABS-CBN Film Archives headed by Leo Katigbak and Central Digital Lab, Inc., the same team that restored Himala.
Oro Plata Mata is considered as Gallaga’s most significant contribution to Philippine cinema. The film was set in the province of Negros during the World War II and showed the impact of the war in the lives of two haciendero (farm owners) families. From the luxury to a life filled with pain and disaster after being victims of Japanese soldiers and bandits during the war. The film offers roller-coaster of emotions that will make every moviegoer feel the love, joy, pain, and hope in every scene making Oro Plata Mata one of the best films ever created.
The 2012 Cinema One Originals Festival will run from November 28 to December 9 at Robinson’s Galleria Movie World and from November 29 to December 4 at the Edsa Shangri-La Cineplex. The festival’s much awaited awards night will be held on December 3 at the Studio 1, ABS-CBN Main Building.
