After more than two years of creation, Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles is finally here and will be showing in all cinemas nationwide beginning October 17, 2012. The film was directed and written by Erik Matti who carefully created the world of the dark creatures together with the characters played by Dingdong Dantes, Lovi Poe, Joey Marquez, LJ Reyes, Ramon Bautista, Janice de Belen, and Roi Vinzon. Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles will be the first feature-length Filipino movie to be entirely shot on green screen with the innovation of computer-generated visual effects to let them control with most of the visuals, colors and textures to compliment with the set up and story of the film.
With the tight budget and 2000 square-meter warehouse where they will be creating the world of the aswangs, it challenges the determination and ability of Direk Erik as filmmaker and writer of the horror suspense film. According to him they need to be more resourceful with most of their equipments including the green screen where they need to look for substitute in order to maintain the ambiance and set up which is around five: outside the house of Sonia (Lovi), inside Sonia’s House, the market, the community of the aswangs and the area where Makoy (Dindong) faces Tatang (Roi).
According to Direk Erik it was blessing for them to have that warehouse which is supposed to be storage for a brand of undergarments and shoot for almost 3 months and the post production that includes CGI and visual grading to make it more visually appealing to the movie goers who enjoy dark stories. Which I had the chance to see the first 20 minutes of the film and honestly it really excites me on how Direk Erik created the world of the aswangs and I can hardly believe that it was only shot inside a 2000 square-meter warehouse.
Including with the creation of the monsters in the film it is smoother and detailed rather than stiff and looks like more a prosthetics. Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles is something to look forward to especially if you like horror movies and it was presented by Reality Entertainment, Agostodos Pictures, PostManila, and Mothership.
