ParaNorman follows the kid named Norman (Smit-McPhee) that has a special gift of communicating with the spirit of the dead people in their community. At school he was tagged a freak and even his family doesn’t understand his case until he found a friend in Niel (Albrizzi) who is also one of victims of bullies at school but manages to cope up with it. Set in a small New England town of Blithe Hollow, Massachusetts where it was believed that there was a witch that once brought terror in the area hundred years ago and according to Mr. Prenderghast, Norman’s crazy uncle it will return and will be haunting the land with her group of zombies. It was only Norman with his gift can stop her return.
It’s been years when I saw a 3D stop-motion animated film as far as I remember the last one I enjoyed was Tim Burton’s Nightmare before Christmas. ParaNorman is a children’s movie but it caters to all ages and everyone can relate to it especially that it talks about individuality and how to cope with being different in the society. It gives a new flavor in the idea of heroism that children would really enjoy which is very different from fighting the with and overpowers her along with her zombies, instead the film will show the viewers a better solution of solving the problem which was shown in the character of the misunderstood kid named Norman.
Visually, unlike other dark movies you can enjoy the 3D effects that are very clear and sharp through out the film. Story wise it is a children-themed movie that doesn’t need a serious review instead it is something that must be enjoyed along with lines that that will really make every movie goers burst in to laughter.
Catch ParaNorman with your friends, family or children beginning September 5 exclusively on Ayala Cinemas.
