After few days of speculations of who will be replacing the late Secretary Jesse Robredo in the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Malacanang officially announces early in the afternoon of Friday, August 31 the appointment of former senator and Department of Transportation (DOTC) Secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas II as the successor of the late Secretary Robredo in the said office. President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III announces the appointment of Mar Roxas who was his running mate at the 2010 Presidential Election under Liberal Party (LP) as the new chief of DILG together with Cavite Representative Jun Abaya as the new secretary of DOTC.
In the statement of President Aquino during the announcement of Roxas he said that trusted him that he can continue the responsibility that was given to the late Secretary Robredo that he devoted himself to the fulfill his duties as the DILG chief. He said that no matter what happen he believes that Roxas will focus to his work as the new DILG secretary which he did in DOTC where he started reform since he was appointed in 2011. He believes in Mar Roxas capabilities as the new DILG Secretary to fulfill and fully implement all the duties that was given before to Robredo that benefits all local government and ensure unity among Filipinos.
The said appointment was gladly accepted by Mar Roxas and he mentioned that it was a big challenge for him to accept this responsibility that the late Jessy Robredo did during his two years of being DILG secretary. Roxas said that he will do everything to fulfill his duties and not disappoint the president and the Filipino people. He will continue the legacy of Robredo and he will be Roxas’ inspiration to implement all his projects and policies for the benefit of the local government.
Roxas also says thank you to his DOTC family and wishes the incoming Secretary Jun Abaya good luck. Meanwhile, President Aquino requested the Commission on Appointment to immediately approved Roxas and Abayan so that they can fully fulfill their duties as the new secretaries of their respective offices and can implement projects faster that can benefit the people.
