From being a commercial model in a Chinese themed fast food chain, Richard Yap had proven that he can take big leap in the showbiz industry as an actor. His first appearance was in ABS-CBN’s My Binondo Girl as Chen Sy or popularly known as Papa Chen. He played the role of Chinese Businessman that owns big restaurants in the country and the father of Jade which was played by Kim Chiu. During the run of the evening teleserye he had chemistry with both actress Ai Ai delas Alas and Cherrie Pie Picache where he gain huge supporters from online and TV viewers. Richard also appeared in Walang Hanggan as business partner with Daniel and Emily Guidoti that was played by Coco Martin and Dawn Zulueta.
Having the same luck that he had in 2011, Richard will now be having his starring role with Jodi Sta. Maria as Mr. Richard Lim in Be Careful with My Heart. As Mr. Lim, he is a widower and a father to three children named Abby (Mutya Orquia), Luke (Jerome Ponce), and Nikki (Janelle Salvador). He will be getting Maya (Jodi) to be the nanny of Abby, which at the end will be attached to his children and later fell in love to each other.
