After the successful presentation of Kaos and Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music at the Newport Performing Arts Theater (NPAT), Resorts World Manila (RWM) brings another theater masterpiece from the team of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II entitled The King and I. It is based on the 1944 novel Anna and the King of Siam by Margaret Landon and based from the memoirs of Anna Leonowens, who became governess to the children of King Mongkut ofSiamin the 1860s. Now the Philippine presentation of The King and I it will be played by the Filipino veteran actors Leo Tavarro Valdez as the King of Siam and Monique Wilson as Anna the governess.
The World Manila’s presentation of The King and I is under the direction of Freddie R. Santos and will start on September 15, 2012. It is a musical that follows the journey of Anna, an educator and strong willed woman who was hired by the King of Siam to tutor his children. With his son, Louis and new friends that she will discover in her journey she will gather strength and the will to fulfill her task as a governess and to soften the heart of the King.
According to Colin Kerr the Vice-President for Entertainment of RWM they are committed in advocating and promoting the talents of the Filipino artist and the Philippine Theater industry. Which marks the production of The King and I under RWM as an all-Filipino produced Broadway musical.
