People’s Champ and Philippine Congressman Manny “Pacman” Pacquaio triggers the anger of the supporters of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBTs) community in the internet after criticizing the stand of the US President Barack Obama’s in supporting on same-sex marriage. In his interview at the National Conservative Examiner (http://www.examiner.com/article/pacquiao-rejects-counsels-obama-god-s-words-first), the boxer-congressman mentioned that this kind of act is not right according to the bible. Quoting the e verse in the bible, “If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.” (Leviticus 20:13). He also stated that the view of the US President attacks the on the moral of the society and also the will of the God.
With this kind of words that Pacquaio stated during his interview, supporters of the LGBT communities rallies on his endorsements including Nike to pull out and no longer support him because of his statement against the homosexuals. Other’s joins online petitions to show their dismay on Filipino boxer along with other personalities who understand the issues concerning the LGBTs.
Pacquiao who embraces the word of God early this year started preaching in various communities and even wanted to become a Christian evangelist. Aside from him, celebrity and beauty queen Miriam Quiambo faced the anger of the people especially those who are online on making a statement against the homosexuals during her stand on including a transgender on the beauty pageant Miss Universe.
Despite of the awareness and acceptance on the LGBTs in the society, there are still issues and reports on violence and discrimination towards them. In other countries being a homosexual is considered a crime or deviant in the society where they were put to jail or became outcast in their workplace, schools or community. With this others tend to hide or worse commit suicide because of the pressure made by discrimination. Aside from that being under the sheets or simply hiding in the society, communities has the tendency to have more cases of HIV/AIDS because of the fear to come out, to be aware and to be tested because of discrimination in the society. And sadly with this kind of remarks from personalities it will give a huge impact on how others see LGBT communities on a narrow-minded instead of accepting and understanding them openly.
