Last March 31, I had the chance to see the livelihood program of most of the mothers in Naic, Cavite that involves water lilies. For others it’s either ornamental plant for our fish ponds while for others it something that gives most of our fishermen having a hard time catch fishes in lakes and rivers. But in Naic, Cavite women saw the potential of making these water lilies as cash cows where that can use it as a cheap material to create potential export products.
It only takes dried and pressed water lilies that are carefully weaved and sewn to create products like baskets, hand bags, slippers, wallets, hat and placemats. As of now the women of Naic, Cavite who works together on this water lily made handicrafts partnered with Kulture of SM Supermalls to distribute and sell their products.
With cheap resources that they can easily get in their river that is very abundant and add creativity with it that can create beautiful and world-class products that is worth selling in both local and international market.
The community in Naic, Cavite is a partner of World Vision Philippines that initiated the trip and immersion last March 31.
