During our visit in Naic, Cavite last March 31 which was headed by World Vision we had the chance to meet some of their former scholars and community partners who are now under the Shoreline Kabalikat sa Kaunlaran, Inc. For several years of being supported by World Vision in terms of educational and livelihood support the community of Naic, Cavite finally stood up and work together for their growth and also the fulfillment of the academic concerns of their children.
Under the Shoreline Kabalikat sa Kaunlaran Inc., they continue what they did with World Vision which is establishing good relationship with those with the community and with God. There also community based health program that responds to the health needs of the community served and livelihood program that includes the water-lily made products and organic vegetables and animals that they sell to help them upgrade socio-economic conditions.
I had the chance to meet Aldrin who is taking education in college with the help of the foundation. World Vision helps him during his elementary and secondary years and now Shoreline supports him in his college. He balanced his students and earn small amount from tutorial and teaching taekwondo that made him busy and far from any vices. But aside from the support that WV and Shoreline gave him along with his other siblings Aleli and Alvin, is the support that their parents; Angelito and Carmelita gave them. His father, Angelito is a fish vendor and mother Carmelita is housewife. Despite of their current financial status, they can manage to support their children to school and nurture them with love and support which I think is the most ultimate gift that parents can give to their children.
Before meeting Aldrin and his family, with a small activity near the shore we met James and Kim. Both are also Shoreline scholars that aside from focusing from their studies, they also have the heart and responsibility in protecting their environment. Community members make sure that their place is clean that is why they conduct regular coastal clean-up. Also they manage to protect marine life especially the sea turtles and their eggs from scavengers and other animals that had nursery area to protect their eggs until it’s fully hatched and ready to go back in the sea.
One of the things that the community thought me is to have that strong hope, which despite of the hard things they encountered in their lives – lack of financial support and education they never cease to move on with their lives and stand for themselves to make their lives better. I hope there will be move organizations life World Vision and Shoreline will help our fellow Filipinos in Naic, Cavite who needs support for education and livelihood programs for their community.
