The Hunger Games – the most anticipated science fiction action-drama film based from the novel of Suzanne Collins is finally showing in all cinemas worldwide. This is the first of The Hunger Games trilogy novel of Collins which followed by the Catching Fire and Mockingjay. The film stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth. It was directed by Gary Ross and distributed by Lionsgate, Alliance Films and Warner Bros Pictures in various countries worldwide.
The sci-fi film follows the journey of the tributes at the 74th Hunger Games. They were selected via a raffle and two tributes will emerge from the twelve (12) districts of Panem, a nation that arises from the ruins of North America after a great upheaval. Katniss Everdeen (Lawrence) volunteer to be the replacement of her sister Prim (Willow Shields) while Peeta Mellark (Hutcherson) was the male tribute chosen from the raffle. The Hunger Games is hunting game show that includes survival and outplaying their fellow tributes until one emerges alive and surviving.
The cinematic version of The Hunger Games gives the readers and non-readers a treat on how visually the film can be. Visually you can see the difference of how the remaining districts like the one where Katniss lives and the main city where the presentation of the tribute takes place in terms of texture. You can actually see how chaos brings impact to their lives including hunger, shelter and emotion — and the fate awaits them at the competition. One of the things that everyone should look forward to is the presentation of the tributes on how the film gives justice to the character of Katniss and Peeta as the tribute on fire. Also how the actual game look like a futuristic Survivor and Big Brother in one.
From the blonde girl Raven Darkholme (Mystique) of X-Men: First Class, Jennifer Lawrence proves that she can do more from the pretty shape-shifting girl to a fierce tribute Katniss in The Hunger Games fighting for honor and survival for her district. While the pretty boy Josh Hutcherson of the Journey movie series shows a good chemistry to Raven as Peeta, Katniss’ fellow tribute.
I hope that the film adaptation doesn’t end on the first novel, I wanted to see how the tribute of District 12 returns to the special 75th edition of the Hunger Games and emerges of District 13 at the Catching Fire. And also the emergence of Katniss as member of the rebels against the capital after being a refugee in District 13 at the final novel of Collins which is the Mokingjay.
Lastly, The Hunger Games film partners with World Food Programme to raise awareness about hunger around the world which hunger is very much prominent in the film especially in all districts where tributes came from. With this partnership the launched
www.wfp.org/hungergame where actors Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth encourages their supporters to take part of the fight against hunger and for only $5 a month, WFP can help provide at least 20 meals to a child in need though their help.
