This will be my third year joining Earth Hour with World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). Every year the number of participants joining this annual symbolical switch off grew along with participating cities, establishments and communities. This year there will be three key cities that will be heading Earth Hour in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
In Luzon, Makati will be hosting the main activity which will happen at the Ayala Tower One along Ayala Avenue beside the Ayala Triangle Park. The activity starts at 6pm where there will be parade of the glow-in-the-dark dance troupe Bailes de Luces and the Caracol dancers shall form the vanguard of an Earth-themed that begins at the Makati Fire Station and ended at the main venue. Aside from the WWF-Philippines ambassador Rovilson Fernandez who is the host of the event, Earth Hour founder Andy Ridley will be at the event to join switch off. Also joining the event are El Gamma Penumbra, Brigada and other performance to make the 1 hour switch off fun and unforgettable to everyone.
Davaoeños will be leading the Earth Hour activity in Mindanao as the flock in SM City Davao. Joining the switch off is Marc Nelso, also WWF-Philippines Ambassador. Expect the beauty and breathtaking tribal-themed parade that begins at 6:30PM within the vicinity of SM City Davao; also during the switch off be amazed with the black-light and fire-dancers. The Davao switch off was made possible by SM Supermalls, the Green Alliance and the Davao City Government.
Aside from the 3 main cities that will taking the lead for Earth Hour in the Philippines there will be Earth Hour activities in various cities, communities and establishments doing their simultaneous switch off that stars on 8:30PM until 9:30PM. Earth Hour is just a symbolical activity that encourages everyone to switch off their lights and more to be aware on the importance of conservation and preservation of our resources for the future generation. For Filipinos taking part in this campaign for Mother Earth is very essential and straight from the heart where every year we are facing the wrath of nature particularly with the strong typhoons that cause lives and dreams.
Earth Hour serves as wake up call and also a challenge on what we can do more beyond the switch off. It can be individual or group efforts that will give impact, small or big in our participation on taking care of the environment, preserving and conserving resources and passing the learning and education at the younger generation.
Join the Earth Hour wherever you are in the world along with your time zone. Be one with Mother Earth and to the people who embraces the challenge of going beyond the annual switch off!
