Running from February 10 to March 3, 2012 at the Onstage Greenbelt 1 in Makati City, Repertory Philippines presents Leading Ladies that will make every theater goers laugh their hearts out. It is directed by veteran actor and director Michael Williams and feature actors including James Stacey, Topper Fabregas, Cris Villonco, Giannina Ocampo, Jamie Wilson, Juno Henares, Hans Eckstein, and Oliver Usison. Leading Ladies was written by Ken Ludwig and premiered at The Cleveland Play House in 2004.
The comedy play centers to the extraordinary journey of Leo Clark and Jack Gable, Shakespearean actors who disguised as women in order to get the multi-million dollar inheritance from Florence. Having the new identity as “Maxine” and “Stephanie,” they tried to convinced Florence’s family they there were the true relatives they are looking for so long. Despite of them doing good in their task, Leo and Jack were destructed and fell in love with two girls, Meg and Audrey, that compromises their first objective which is to get Maxine and Stephanie. With that things became more complicated and twisted as they work on two identities at the same time in order to fulfill their goals and at the same time win the heart of the two girls in Florence’s house.
As always, knowing it is a Ken Ludwig’s performance everyone should expect extravagant set design and costumes which Repertory Philippines had perfectly executed in their presentation of Leading Ladies. The set was very detailed to make it look like an old English mansion that really shows how rich is the family that Leo and Jack will be meeting. As for the costume designs, it was really great, from the choice of colors that really stand out from the set and of course on how it will carry the personality of the two actors.
James and Topper really did a wonderful job in doing their roles and of course their talents in changing costumes that fast. They way they switch in different characters and of course the disguised as Maxine and Stephanie that the viewers will look forward to.
Leading Ladies is one of the plays that everyone should not be missed; it’s a good combination of stage design, costumes, story and actors in one stage.
