After his successful portrayal of Dan Goodman in Next to Normal of Atlantis Production, Jet Pangan takes on a more challenging role as intelligent Dr. Henry Jekyll and the misanthropic Edward Hyde in Repertory Philippines’ production of Jekyll & Hyde. The gothic pop musical will be staged at the Onstage, Greenbelt 1 in Makati City on March 15. Joining Pangan are Cris Villonco, Kailala Aguilos, Junix Inocian, Steve Cadd, Ruben Uy, and Jack Salud. Mechu Lauchengco-Yulo will be directing the musical and Michael Williams will be alternating with Jet in other performances.
It was great to see Jet Pangan on stage once again after Next to Normal and now playing the lead role in a musical. For the record it is Jet’s first time to work with Repertory Philippines even though he already work with Mechu as co-actor before it is challenging and refreshing for him at the same time. He will be doing two roles in the play as a pedantic Dr. Henry Jekyll who is set to marry Emma Crew (Villonco) and by accident he brings out another character within him which is the Edward Hyde a cruel and actually the opposite of his real self. Hyde fells in love or should I say in lust with Lucy Harris (Aguilos), who is the main attraction of The Red Rat club.
Pangan and also William will show their versatility as actors in portraying contradicting roles simultaneously in some of the scenes that will really surprise their audience. With a dark approach, Jet can actually showcase his talent as a rock singer especially with the character of Hyde and also with Jekyll. The Jekyll & Hyde presentation of Repertory Philippines is something to look forward to especially it offers a powerful set of actors and wonderful story.
The Jekyll & Hyde version that Rep Phils will be presenting on March is the Robert Louis Stevenson’s 1886 novella, with music by Frank Wildhorn and book and lyrics by Leslie Bricusse. It will run from March 16-April 15, 2012 with shows on Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. and matinee shows on Saturdays and Sundays at 3:30 p.m. For tickets, inquiries and other information, call Repertory Philippines at 571-6926 or 571-4941 or email [email protected].
