Despite of the weather, the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Philippines’ 1st Dolphin Mural Painting Marathon took place at the Glorietta Dolphin Park in Makati City on February 18. The said activity that aims to raise awareness about the beauty of the marine life and importance of conservation started at 8:00AM with hundreds of participants contributing their talents in painting. For every participant who registered WWF-Philippines raised Php 300 per person and it will be going to the conservation and protection efforts of the organization in the Malampaya Sound in Palawan. Registration covers painting materials that will be used for the Dolphin Mural Painting Marathon.
All the artworks will be on display at the venue for 1 week and will be available for auction. Proceeds will be included at the Malampaya where it aims to protect and conserved the endangered Irrawaddy dolphin (Orcaella brevirostris). With the less than 100 population, WWF-Philippines already lobbied for its listing as critically endangered under the IUCN red data list with the help of the Department of National Resources (DENR) and it was successfully approved. With technical support provided by the project, the municipality of Taytay and the Malampaya park management are now developing fishery policy that will minimize the threats to the Irrawaddy dolphin from by-catch capture. Hopefully in the next two years they will be gearing to the study and modification to conserve the dolphin species within the area.
Aside from the mural painting, other activities included at WWF-Philippines event includes free face painting, henna tattoo, animated portraits, fun photo booth, live entertainment and more! The event will be hosted by Marc Nelson and Rovilson Fernandez with AG Sano a famous mural artist and WWF Environmental Hero.

Nakakatuwa na nabigyan nila ng pansin ang Malampaya sound. It’s one fishing ground in Palawan that benefit the northern towns. I really hope this activity could give the much needed awareness & hopefully could help save the area from possible destruction due to illegal activities. Cheers WWF! 🙂
Am sharing this to Ely’s Planet readers. Thanks, Flow!
Thanks din po. Matagal nang sinusuportahan ng WWF ang Malampaya Project looking forward nga ako sa policy nila pag nagawa at pwede magamit ito in the future ng ibang fishing community
