Philippine comedienne and TV host Pokwang takes a big step in her career as she ventures to drama in The Filipino Channel’s (TFC) first produced movie entitled A Mother’s Story. The film officially released in Los Angeles, California, USA last November 6, 2011 and now here in the Philippines it will be distributed by Star Cinema in 100 theaters nationwide beginning January 8, 2012. This family film centered in the journey and struggle of some of the overseas Filipino workers (OFW) was directed by John D. Lazatin. A Mother’s Story also features actors including Xyriel Manabat, Rayver Cruz, Nonie Buencamino, Daria Ramirez and Beth Tamayo.
The film follows the story of Medy (Pokwang), a make-up artist and the mother of King (Cruz) and Queenie (Manabat) who was forced to encouraged to be an OFW in order to give her family a better life. But fortune was never been good to her; she experienced cruelty and doesn’t have a chance to communicate with her family. Finally she returned home, but nothing to offer to her family especially to Queenie who can hardly recognized her. Medy was now caught in a middle of telling what she had encountered or patch things up to her husband and son who has hatred toward her.
A Mother’s Story, was very close to the heart of Pokwang where she experienced some of the things that Medy experienced when she was working as an OFW before she was discovered by ABS-CBN. Also the film will show the lives of some of the Filipinos who struggles in order to live in other country in order to give their family a better life. It was already screened in different countries that has TFC and will still have screening in the future as part of its international promotion. A Mother’s Story was graded “A” by the Cinema Evaluation Board of the Philippines and also stars Ana Capri, Jaime Fabregas, Aaron Junatas and K Brosas.
