As of now around 1, 000 died and thousands left homeless and recovering from the damage brought by Typhoon Sendong that struck Iligan, Cagayan de Oro, Bukidnon and other areas in Mindanao. United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) open their doors to accept donations to help the typhoon victims especially the children and mothers in Mindanao by providing them potable water, clothing, food and medicines.
As of now based on the reports the flooding has affected more than 63,000 families or 338,000 individuals half of them children in some 260 barangays and UNICEF already dispatches water kits, water treatment, to ensure safe, clean water; hygiene kits containing soap, toothbrushes and personal hygiene items. Aside from that the organizations is preparing tents and tarpaulins for temporary shelter; vitamin A for mothers and infants; breastfeeding education materials to reduce the risk of infant mortality; and recreation kits so children can play and begin to have a sense of normalcy.
