Last November 22, Julie’s Bakeshop officially launches their Bayan Sliced Bread for the benefit of World Food Programme’s Emergency School Feeding (ESF) project in Central Mindanao. The ESF program is an on-site nutritious meals in targeted elementary schools in Lanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, and Maguindanao. With this project Julie’s Bakeshop will be donating P2 to WFP for every purchase of Bayan Sliced Bread.
The school feeding program that WFP implemented in Central Mindanao is in partnership of Department of Social Welfare and Development and the Department of Education as well as the non-government organization Community Family Services International. The ESF program already helps to bring children back to school after a protracted period of displacement in 2008/2009 and this was made possible by the strong commitment shown by the Parent-Teacher Association in the targeted elementary school. This is the big help for the students who are eager to learn but having hard time to focus because of the rumbling stomach because of hunger. It also helps to nourish the children that will contribute to their physical, emotional and mental development. As the message of World Food Day last October 2011; Feed a Child, Feed a Dream, it translate to a child if properly nourish, he or she can focus in school to heave a possible clearer future.
Present at the launching of the partnership were World Food Programme-Philippines Head for Food Security Dipayan Bhattacharyya, Julie’s Bakeshop Founder Julia Gandionco, President and CEO of Julie’s Franchise Corporation Joseph Gandionco and World Food Programme National Ambassador and actress KC Conception. Employees and franchisees of Julie’s Bakeshop were present to witness the said event.
The Julie’s Bakeshop Bayan Sliced Bread packaging contains the World Food Programme logo that raises awareness of WFP’s central role in the fight against hunger and providing customers with an easy way to get involved. It also has the tagline Fighting Hunger Together where it encourages everyone to take part of fighting hunger worldwide.
