In line with Freeway’s immortalizing the legacy and works of the National Artist here in the Philippines, they created their National Artists Series Collection where they already featured Nick Joaquin (Literature), Ang Kiukok (Visual Arts), Jose Garcia Villa (Literature), Ramon Valera (Fashion Design) and F. Sionil Jose (Literature). Now on their Holiday 2011 collection Freeway introduces the Manansala collections inspired from the works of National Artist for Visual Arts Vicente Manansala, a well known Philippine cubist painter and illustrator, reinterpreted or indigenized cubism as he drew his themes from the familiar Filipino environment.
The campaign that started in 2009 aims to reintroduce the works of the Philippines’ National Artist to the younger generation in order to appreciate and be proud with their Filipino roots that is very talented and nation loving. In the works of Manansala it shows the current setting of the Filipinos in terms of their everyday living, work and lifestyle. He is popular with his paintings like the Madonna of the Slums (1950), which reflected the poverty in postwar Manila. Aside from that his subjects included jeepnevs, barong-barong, cockfighters, families gathering for a modest meal, and Quiapo women vendors of various goods. This were the artworks now shown in the latest collections of Freeway in it Freeway x Manansala National Artist Collectors’ Series Holiday 2011. It includes men and women apparels, bracelets, timepieces, mouse pads and others.
The Manansala collections will be available in all Freeway outlet nationwide and it is very stylish and affordable. So be proud of being Filipino and wear the Freeway National Artists Collections. Portion of the purchased Manansala apparels and accessories will be given to the Friends of Manansala Foundation to preserve the artworks of Vicente Manansala and to train future visual artists. The Manansala artworks and paintings will be seen at the The Honolulu Academy of Arts, the Lopez Memorial Museum (Manila), the Philippine Center (New York City) and the Singapore Art Museum .
