World Food Programme’s Free Rice is now available in French and Italian version after the success of having Spanish when it was release last June. Originally this vocabulary website that gives away grains of rice in every correct answer was released in Englinh version. With the release of new versions will generate more users online to participate in the global fight against child hunger at the same time they are improving their vocabulary.
Like the English FreeRice.com version, Freerice Español (www.freerice.com/es), Freerice Italiano (www.freerice.com/it) and Freerice Français (www.freerice.com/fr) will still have the vocabulary test about arts, chemistry and geography. With this Spanish, French and Italian speaking students in various countries will have more options to test their skills in vocabulary and at the same time help to feed hungry children around the world.
“Whether you are a French or Italian speaker eager to enrich your vocabulary or an avid language student, Freerice engages players in a fun and challenging way that helps the hungry,” said Nancy Roman, WFP Director of Communications, Public Policy and Private Partnerships Division.
Using FreeRice.com is simple. Users can register through Facebook, Twitter or their email address. They can invite friends to join their group list where they can compare their scores and number of grains of rice donated to World Food Programme. For every right answer 10 grains of rice will be given to WFP. They can share to their Facebook, Twitter and blogs all their accomplishments with FreeRice through sharing button and widgets.
FreeRice was launched in 2007, and it became an instant viral phenomenon and it was designed by John Breen. From its first month it feed almost 50, 000 people around the world. Today, Freerice attracts 40,000 players daily (1.3 million per month) who take the fight against hunger online. They have raised almost 100 billion grains of rice, enough to feed 4.8 million people for a day in countries like Haiti, Uganda, Pakistan and Cambodia.
From Italian, French and Spanish, there will be Chinese and Korean version of www.FreeRice.com which is currently on plan.
