In the latest test conducted by independent professional engineering service provider NESIC Philippines, Inc. (NPI), it shows that the Smart Bro Plug-It has faster connection speeds compared to other wireless broadband provider. The test was conducted from July 4 to 6, 2011 in 100 test locations nationwide.
During the test, it shows that there is an average difference of 0.74Mbps between Smart Bro and its rival with 26 areas reflecting a 1Mbps discrepancy or greater. While on the peak speed, Smart Bro beats the competition 99% of the time with an average difference of 1Mbps. The tool used during the speed test was through the website Speedtest.net and the text server located in San Francisco, USA (SF Monkey Brains server).
With the result received by SMART and its parent company the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT), they decided to go on with the network upgrade with the total amount of P67 billion. The upgrade includes the updating and installation network elements wireless base stations, fiber optic cables, and international gateways to improve their service on both sms/text, call and online. Up to date they already installed 42,000kms of fiber optic cables arranged in loops with an additional 3,000 kms of cabling before the end of the year.
