In line of the 100 Years of Nestle in the Philippines they launches the Kasambuhay Habambuhay: A Short Film Anthology which will be shown in SM cinemas nationwide: SM Megamall Cinema 3, SM Southmall Cinema 6, SM Rosales Cinema 1, SM City Davao Cinema 1 and SM City Cebu Cinema 7) like for free from June 11-12, 2011. There will be 10 short films with 10 minute running time each, showing different stories about culture, friendship, family, love, faith and hope, and showing how Nestle touches the lives of every Filipinos in their simple way.
Movies included in the short film anthology of nestle were The Howl and the Fussyket, Unplugged, Silup, Isang Tasang Pangarap, Sali Salita, Oh! Pa Ra Sa Ta U Wa Yeah!, Downtown, Tingala sa Baba, Cooking Mo, Cooking Ko and Sign Seeker. Each film features Nestle products including Bear Brand Powdered Milk Drink, Nescafé, Milo, Nestea, Nido, Coffee-mate, Maggi, Bear Brand Sterilized Milk, Nestlé Ice Cream, Koko Krunch, Nestlé Fruit Selection Yogurt and Nestlé Fitnesse.
The Howl and the Fussyket stars Eugene Domingo and Kiray Celis where it shows the relationship of a mother to her children and how they help them in reaching their dreams and facing failure. Of course, being Eugene and Kiray as part of the film the story was presented humorously but with a tender touch straight to the heart. After the comical film, it was followed by Unplugged starring Eddie Garcia, Marvin Agustin, and Kaye Abad. It shows the importance on how life is better making it simple and stress free. The film reminds us the basics of life and how we can be better with things by connecting to nature and our own senses. While Silup, a suspense drama short film that stars Sid Lucero and Gloria Romero. It shows how a cop and a son can sacrifice everything for his mother who is missing her deceased husband.
Isang Tasang Pangarap is a parody of Nora Aunor’s Himala. It shows how Elias (Ramon Bautista) who only owns a red mug as his priced possession and his simple life that turns around because of the ability to foretell the future. Sali Salita opens the imagination of everyone and unites a son to his pre occupied mother through the story telling game. It stars Migs Cuaderno, Bodjie Pascua and Judy Chua. Oh! Pa Ra Sa Ta U Wa Yeah let us peek to the latest love adventure of Nicos (Neil Coleta) and his family in his quest to get Mattina’s yes. While Downtown, follows the journey of an old Chinese man (Virgilio Que), who wanted to have a second chance in his life and undergo drastic yet favorable change in life.
Tingala sa Baba is satire, showing two kids (Arby Cesar Viduya, and Eubert Marc de la Cruz) talking about life and status where realization came in that despite of money and wealth, still we need to have a friend. Cooking Mo, Cooking Ko, another parody film and this time it Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. The film stars Isay Alvarez, Nonie Buencamino, Shamaine Buencamino, Robert Sena, Eda Nolan and Dominic Roco and follows how friends destroyed by competition and envy but later reunited because of love. Lastly a “kilig” love story entitled Sign Seeker that stars John Lloyd Cruz and Solenn Heussaff follows a journey of a guy who wanted to court the beautiful girl from the other company and asked a lot of sign if he will pursue it.
Among the short film, I enjoyed The Howl and the Fussyket, Unplugged, Isang Tasang Pangarap, Sali Salita, Downtown, Tingala sa Baba, Cooking Mo, Cooking Ko and Sign Seeker. Those films aside from it has concept appealing to the larger crowed because its either comedy, drama and love story it also gives a storyline that is easy to understand despite of it is a digital or short film. And I have to admit, I love the Tingala sa Baba and Unplugged. Simply because it suggested a wider perspective to the viewers on how simple life can easy help you understand more things and an eye opener about the issue of inequality in the society.
