Our Fight Against Cancer and Reaching Out to Others
Cancer is known as a silent killer and as of 2007, 7.9 million or 13% of worldwide death is caused by cancer, and sadly no age is excuse of being vulnerable with the said disease. The most vulnerable to have cancer are children that are mostly fragile and can be more traumatic for them. In the 1998 report of Department of Health according to them the numbers of children with cancer around 2,707 and possibly the number of cases now (2010) the estimation reaches to 3,500 up. For children Leukemia and Lymphoma is the common cancer cases where malignancies derived from hematopoietic (blood-forming) cells.
It’s been awhile since I involved myself to be an advocate for cancer awareness since my father died on it. It was 2003 when my father was diagnosed of having cancer in the stomach and it was already malignant. It hard for the family to see our dad struggling from pain, it was October on that same year when my father passed away; it was the darkest day in our lives from the time we discovered the cancer and up to his death. It was traumatic for my two sisters who very much close to him and to my mother, in my case I need to be strong yet who has the courage to be strong knowing that someone died in your family? From there, I decided to join the campaign and to advocate for cancer awareness and reach out to those who needs support which in times like that the only courage that a cancer patient needs two things; to have faith and to have people around him/her supporting him/her on his battle against the disease.
For those who wanted to take on this campaign you may visit Ms. Janette Toral’s blog post: Showing Real Love for Children with Cancer.
Be one of us, let’s all support Real Love campaign for Kythe Foundation and reach out to children who are in need of our love and support.
