As President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo will be leaving the portals of Malacañang and her presidency for 9 years on June 30 to give way to President-elect Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino III, Velasco Saludo will be releasing a book entitled Beating the Odds that will report and review the highlights of the Arroyo administration.
Beating the Odds will be discussing Arroyo’s undertakings in her 9 year term as the country’s presidents which includes policy and decision making. Saludo undergoes intensive research and study on the life of PGMA as a president in her plight on the Mindanao peace process that includes her fight against terrorism and series of coup attempts against her government. It also tackles issues that her critics are continuing throwing at her; budget deficit and other irregularity that concerns her, her family and the people surrounds her.
I may not personally like the way she runs her government and the country, along with the alleged midnight appointments and series of anomalies, but Saludo’s intensive research will help a lot on how we will see both sides of the Arroyo administration. A good reference in studying Philippine politics especially the executive department; how Arroyo takes the challenge of terrorism, implementing the Mindanao peace process, finding solution on drugs and the spread of the feared Severe Acute respiratory Syndrome (SARS), AH1N1 and other health hazards that came in the Philippines during her presidency and how she faces the criticism in her government.
Beating the Odds of Velasco Saludo will be out soon on leading bookstores and its worth collectors item especially who are into Philippine politics.
