• Candidates Aquino, Villar and Estrada were the three strong contenders aiming to be the next president of the country, based on the latest Social Weather Station (SWS) and Pulse Asia Survey Aquino continue to lead and followed by Villar and Estrada. Both three contenders are part of the opposition where Teodoro ranks as 4th/5th place in the survey and he is the administration candidate Acosta was disqualified by the Commission on Election due to non-participation on the election campaign. • Like his presidential partner Roxas leads the SWS and Pulse Asia survey followed by Binay and Legarda. Roxas should be the LP’s presidential candidate until he gives way to Aquino and steps down to vice presidential position. Binay in the recent TV ads was now campaigned and partnered to Aquino by his fellow opposition, Chiz Escudero. Binay is now connected to an infidelity issue where photos of him with is mistress circulates in the internet, he clarifies it was already settled with was family and the issue too old to be connected to his campaign. Binay considered it as black propaganda. Fernando is a former Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman who hopes to become Lakas Kampi CMD standard bearer but he left the political party when Teodoro was proclaimed as the presidential candidate after a series of voting and argument within the merged party. Fernando teams up with Gordon in this year’s election. Like Roxas, Binay and Fernando plans to run as president but they stepped down on vice presidential level and giving way to their presidential partner whom they believed can lead their political party well. Legarda is running for the second time as vice president now with the Nacionalista Party, she ran in 2004 national election with the late actor Fernando Poe Jr under PMP party, both of them defeated by Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and Noli de Castro, now the current administration ending their term on June 30, 2010.Legarda, along with Sonza and Manzano are known names in the field of broadcasting, news and entertainment. Sonza is running as independently for the executive position where Acosta, his presidential partner in KBL was disqualified by COMELEC.

• There are 66 senatorial aspirants hoping to secure one of the 12 senatorial seats that will be vacant by June 30, but in case any from the executive position candidates win a position like Aquino, Legarda and Villar, there will be an additional slot that will be open in the senate but the additional senator will only has his or her tenure in term basing to the remaining years of office of the senator he or she will be replacing, in this case the possible 13th or so on senator will only be a senator until 2013. Senatorial candidates for this year’s election are combination of re-electionist senators, politicians running for higher position and new names in the political arena. Some of them were sons and daughters or relatives of a politicians, media men, militaries, celebrities and prominent personality in the society or in their particular field. The senate plays an important role in the legislative system in the country and the task of the executive department where it works hand in hand with the congress and house of the representative where both involve in policy making in the country. Like in 2000 the senate played an important role of the first impeachment trial that everyone witnessed during the time of Estrada.
With the remaining few days before the May 10 election, black propagandas rapidly spreads in any forms of media to lessen the popularity of a particular candidate. But everyone is now anticipating on the famous and powerful bloc vote of the Iglesia ni Cristo where it has millions of members and has 80-90% conversion. Arroyo was one if president who victoriously awarded with the INC’s bloc vote, she is now running in the 2nd district of Pampanga as Congresswomen.
With the new system of election it is essential that voters as of this early be familiarize with their choses candidate to avoid long voting time where most of the precincts were clustered to be served with one PCOS machine each. There will be one ballot per one voter policy on the election. Election begins on 7am until 7pm on May 10, with the new system there are possibilities that with 48 hours a new set of leaders including the president, vice president, senators and local governments will be proclaimed unlike the old system that it takes weeks before the actual proclamation. Like other advocates and concern citizens and netizens I invited you to go out and vote on May 10, 2010. For those who have social network accounts please include #JUANVOTE as your hashtag when posting.
