>Liberal Party standard bearer Senator Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III and his running mate for vice presidential post Manuel “Mar” Roxas II files their Certificate of Candidacy (COC) at the Commission on Election (Comelec) this morning, November 28. With the 7 senatorial candidates; Neric Acosta, Risa Hontiveros-Baraquel, Ruffy Biazon, TG Guingona, Alex Lacson, Ralph Recto, and Sonia Roco, where Serge Osmeña who was formerly part of the senatorial bet of LP filled his candidacy as an independent.
Before going to COMELEC, LP and its supporters met at the Ninoy Aquino Monument in Ayala Avenue, Makati City and marches going to Manila Cathedral in Intramuros Manila where they held a mass, the same church where Noynoy’s mother former President Corazon “Cory” Aquino was held during its wake last August. After the mass they went to Comelec to file their COCs.
After the LP submitted their COCs, Representative Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos II submitted his COC as one of the senatorial bet of Nacionalista Party under its standard bearer Manny Villar and his running mate Loren Legarda (of National People’s Coalition) as his vice president. With Bongbong bringing his father’s name former President Ferdinand Marcos, the issue of dictatorship and martial law was attached to the name of the Ilocos representative. Bongbong firmly says that he is proud being as a Marcos and he sees it as an advantage for his senatorial race for the 2010 election. Like Bongbong, Retired Col Ariel Querubin will be running as one of the senatorial candidate of NP even though he facing the mutiny cased filled against him.
While others giving their stand on running or not running on 2010 election, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, remains quiet on the issue is she’s running as Congresswoman for the 2nd District of Pampanga after meeting with the local officials of Pampanga in Malacanang.
Filing of COC is until December 1.
