>After watching The Echo last night at the SM Megamall, hindi ko maiwasang matakot pa rin kahit alam ko na ang takbo ng story na kung saan napanood ko na ito ang Filipino version nito na Sigaw na pinagbibidahan nina Richard Guitterez, Angel Locsin, Iza Calzado, Ella Guevarra at Jomari Yllana sa movie na parehong sinulat at directed ni Yam Laranas.
Pero it doesn’t mean that when you saw Sigaw you don’t need to watch The Echo, you need to, the plot may be similar but the story set up is different and you will see the difference on how a Filipino horror film is transformed to a Hollywood film. The texture of the film differs and the journey of the character to the plot gives more emphasis on why does the character of Iza Calzado (Gina) interacts from those who is in the state of curiosity which is Jesse Bradford (Bobby) experienced. His curiosity to the noise of the next door leads him to the state of knowing the problem of Gina and he tries to interact and leads him discovering that his next door neighbor doesn’t exist. After knowing dumaan si Bobby sa state of haunting kagaya ng neighbor niyang namatay after the discovery niyang hindi nag e-exist si Gina, ang babaeng humihingi ng tulong sa kanya tuwing gabi ay bumabalik bilang kaluluwang hindi matahimik, isang angry soul tulad ng isang mono or isang poltergeist repeating the scenes of her last day living hoping someone might intervene on that situation n asana ay ginawa ng mga neighbors niya noong bago siya patayin. Gina haunts the floor where she and her daughter died, the same area where his husband who killed them, took his life with his own hand. Repeating the situation until someone helps her but others are haunted by their guilt and the disappointment of Gina who was abandoned by her neighbors who were silently watching her painful death.
I love the movie, and I have 3 reasons why moviegoers should watch it.
1. The adaptation remains true to the plot and Hollywood made it bigger.
2. Sigaw was a suspense/horror type, The Echo became psychological/horror and it became more horrifying is that when you follow the scenes and see things in between the context of the story.
3. The story, characters and sounds blends well and Iza is the perfect Gina and no one can replace her.
Watch The Echo on theaters near you starting on September 30, a simple reminder please bring someone with you and don’t watch the movie alone.
